About Us

Hi there! I’m Carmen, a qualified Food Coach and Reiki Practitioner.

My own personal battle with illness led me on my journey to discover just how powerful food is in sustaining or destroying our health and wellbeing. My journey also led me to discover that our emotional state (amongst other factors) also plays an important role in our overall health.

Our healing journey starts inside us. I believe that a healthy emotional state and good nutrition are key toward a balanced mind and a balanced body.

Simply Nourished was borne out of my dedication to enable people to empower themselves so that they can improve and maintain their health through healthy eating and lifestyle.

I look forward to being of service as your coach, throughout your path to better health.

We are located in Melbourne, Australia.

My Journey

In early 2013, I was admitted to hospital suffering from excruciating abdominal pain and not being able to move. My stomach had swollen so much that I looked like I was 7 months pregnant. The doctors thought that I had appendicitis and had booked an operating theatre without conducting any scans. My instinct kicked in and although I was still in great pain and hardly able to move, I refused to be operated on until the doctors conducted scans. Scans proved the doctors wrong. I was told that the best way forward and my only cure was to have an operation. Having this operation meant that it would change my life forever with the likely scenario being that I would be on medication for the rest of my life. I knew that there had to be a better option for me so I refused the operation. After spending several days in hospital on medication and under observation, I asked to be discharged from hospital and I was allowed to return home.

All I could think about was researching natural ways to heal myself. I took several weeks off work and I set about reading anything that I could get my hands on. Research pointed to one important factor – food. For the first time, I was forced to look at the foods that I was eating. I knew that I had to change, so I did. I chose to take responsibility for my own health and I haven’t looked back.

I realized that my path toward healing would require a holistic approach, and that my healing journey was going to take hard work, time, and would be overwhelming without experts on my ‘team’, so I sought assistance from alternative therapists in various fields.

I stopped eating processed foods in favour of wholefoods. Boy, what a transformation! The swelling of my belly slowly went down, I had more energy, my mind felt clearer, and my body returned to its natural healthy weight. In fact, I felt better than I had ever felt before. I felt free. It was as if a veil had been lifted off me and I was no longer a slave to processed foods and all its nasties such as artificial colours, flavours and preservatives.

Following this revelation, I decided to make it my mission to help others make better food choices, whether it’s to improve health or to prevent ill health. I completed formal studies in Nutrition and Food Coaching, and went on to complete further studies in this field.

Whilst researching, I also came to understand that our emotions play an important role in our overall health. Our emotional state can either be a help or hindrance to our wellbeing. During this time, I felt drawn toward Reiki, a Japanese form of energy healing (without really knowing much about it) and I believe that this pull was no accident. It’s like the saying goes: ‘the teacher appears when the student is ready’ and this is how I view life and its lessons.

I went with the flow and started to learn Reiki to see how it could help with my own healing. The first time I was given Reiki, I felt an incredible deep sense of peace and calm that I hadn’t experienced before. I continued with Reiki, and I was able to recognize factors that had contributed to my emotional blockages. This helped to build a solid foundation so that I could begin clearing these blockages, accept things around me as they are, and not worry about what cannot be changed. I felt much stronger emotionally. I completed both First and Second Degree Reiki as I felt inspired to share the gift of Reiki with others.

My journey so far has been tough, but well worth it. I’m still on my healing journey. Sometimes it can be a little rocky (that’s life!) but, with the foundations in place, I’m better equipped to support myself during life’s inevitable ‘bumps’, and to be grateful for these opportunities so that I can challenge myself and grow even further.

Our healing journey starts inside us. I believe that a healthy emotional state, healthy eating and lifestyle are key toward a balanced mind and a balanced body.

I look forward to being of service as your coach, throughout your path to better health. Are you ready to take the journey?
