Frequently Asked Questions

What is Reiki?

Reiki means ‘Universal Life Force (Energy)’ and is a Japanese form of energy healing using the hands as channels of energy. It is based on the principle that life force energy flows within us all. Whenever this life force energy is low, illness and disease may occur. For example, when we have a stressful experience and the stress is not dealt with effectively, blocks can remain in our energetic system, impeding our natural healing ability (our immune system).

Reiki assists with unblocking energy flow within the body. It is remarkably effective for stress reduction and relaxation, which triggers the body’s natural healing so that the entire system can re-establish harmony. This, in turn, brings about a sense of peace and wellbeing.

Reiki is compatible with all belief systems, enhancing life on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level.

What is a Food Coach?

A Food Coach is someone who not only gives advice on a healthy diet, but also coaches clients to reach their goals on a healthier eating plan. It’s like having your own personal trainer for healthy eating!

As a food coach, I enable clients to empower themselves to achieve their health goals through nutrition, mindset, and lifestyle.

Note: Coaching is not counselling or therapy.

More information on food coaching can be found here.

Do you align your teachings with a certain type of diet (eg: vegetarian or paleo)?

My coaching isn’t based on any single nutrition philosophy. There is no one type of dietary lifestyle that suits everyone. Some people feel great on a predominantly vegetarian diet (eating some meat a few days per week), whilst others feel better on a diet that includes meat every day. My aim is to coach clients to eat healthier (ie: wholefoods rather than processed foods) and explore together with each client to find the best dietary and healthy lifestyle that works for them.

Who are your Food Coaching services suitable for?

My coaching is suited to anyone who is ready to commit themselves to making changes and prepared to demonstrate actions outside of the coaching sessions that validate their commitment. This includes having an open mind and being willing to receive feedback, being prepared to examine how their lifestyle choices have affected their health, keeping appointments and commitments to the coaching sessions, and taking action to move toward their goals.

If you believe that you’re not ready for coaching, but just need some help with dietary recommendations in order to improve your eating habits, then you may like to consider our E-Nourished package or Nourished Kick-Start package. (See prices.)

I prefer not to prepare my own meals. Am I still suitable to be coached by you?

I get it. We all get busy and find ourselves eating out (or bringing home take-away), or want some time off from preparing and cooking our meals. There’s nothing wrong with that when it happens occasionally. However, for long-term healthy eating, it’s important that you’re prepared to make the effort into preparing your meals and snacks for the most part. Food preparation is also an important process for mindful eating. If you aren’t prepared to do this, then unfortunately you would not be suitable to be coached by me. There are, however, other establishments providing that type of service that you can seek out such as this one, or this one.

A big part of the coaching process working with me, is for you to be prepared to demonstrate actions outside of the coaching sessions that validate your commitment to healthier eating. This includes preparing your meals and snacks as it becomes habit-forming.

Often, the issue is just not planning meals in advance or not having the confidence to cook from scratch. You can take advantage of meal planning apps such as this one to help you.

Do you diagnose illnesses?
The services provided by Simply Nourished are complementary to, but not a substitute for professional medical treatment. We do not prescribe or make a diagnosis. Please refer to your medical practitioner for diagnosis of any medical issues, and suitable prescriptions or adjustments to medications.
Where are you located?

Simply Nourished is located in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburb of Wheelers Hill. As consultations are strictly by appointment only, the exact address is provided to you once you have pre-paid and made a booking for your session or package. Food coaching sessions (based on ‘The Nourished Path’ package), or the single strategy session (‘Nourished Kick-Start’) are also available via Zoom.

What’s your policy if I have to change or cancel my appointment?
It’s understandable that there may be times where you may need to re-schedule or cancel your appointment due to circumstances that are out of your control. A minimum of 48 hours notice is required for cancellations/re-scheduling, or your pre-paid session will be forfeited (no refund). For Reiki sessions only, you are most welcome to send a friend in your place.
What happens if I’m late for my appointment?
Your session is reserved especially for you.  If you’re late, your session will still end at the appointed time to avoid delay for the next scheduled appointment.
Are your services suitable for children?

My coaching is suitable for those who are 18 years and over due to the nature of my coaching process involving digging in deep with questions, really ‘stretching’ my clients’ thinking and having my clients come up with their own answers, as well as mindset shifts, and agency over their outcomes. Therefore for minors, for example if there are eating disorders or childhood illnesses, it is advisable to seek help from your heath practitioner who can advise a proper referral to a dietitian, psychologist, or other health professional. These things are beyond my scope of practice.

One thing to note is that if you, as an adult, are eating an unhealthy diet and living an unhealthy lifestyle, and it’s a lifestyle that your minors follow as well, then your are welcome to apply for coaching for yourself as an individual (or perhaps just purchase The E-Nourished or Nourished Kick-Start package. These are for those who just require help with dietary recommendations in order to improve eating habits, and doesn’t include coaching). Prices are here.

For Reiki sessions, yes, children are accepted. Depending on their age, children generally only require about 10-15 minutes of Reiki. The price for children is $70 (prepaid) and this is based on a total appointment time of 30 minutes which includes a short discussion before and after Reiki is given. It is important for the parent/guardian to discuss with the child before the appointment about what the child can expect to happen during the session, so that the child will feel more at ease. All clients under the age of 18 are required to have a parent/guardian present in the room for the duration of the session.
