One thing that I missed when I changed to a healthy eating lifestyle, was Chocolate Mousse – the smooth, light texture that just melted in my mouth and, of course, the chocolate! I was mad for chocolate! Fortunately, I have a healthier Chocolate Mousse recipe that satisfies my need for that chocolate taste. It’s quite a good alternative to the traditional Chocolate Mousse.

The main ingredient is avocado! Avocados are high in potassium (studies have shown high potassium intake is linked to reduced blood pressure, thereby reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes). Avocados are also high in mono-unsaturated fat (good fat). Good fats are important in our diet. They help the body to absorb the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, they help with hormone production, and they keep you fuller for longer.

It has been suggested that those with an allergy to latex may have side-effects to eating avocados. These side-effects may include a stuffy nose, wheezing and coughing, so if you suddenly have any of these symptoms after eating avocado, it may be best to reduce or omit them from your diet.

I have to admit, as healthy as they are, I don’t like avocados. I can’t put them in my mouth without feeling like I want to throw up. I still want to gain the nutritional benefits that avocados provide, but thankfully, with this Chocolate Mousse recipe, I can’t even taste the avocado. The great thing about this recipe is that it’s actually easier and quicker to make than the traditional Chocolate Mousse. The addition of the cacao powder means more anti-oxidants, and magnesium in your diet. The ‘feel-good’ chemicals found in cacao help to improve mood and can help to combat depression.
